Only 2 more days not counting the other 3 days. [Jul. 27th, 2006|07:25 pm]
[mood | happy]
[music |nothing.]

My life thus far:

So its been almost a year since I went to Europe. In these past 10 months my life became something more amazing then I could ever imagine. The day I was to embark on my 6 week long trip I received a text that would forever change my life. This text in question came from none other than a certain Patrick Diola. Europe brought amazing memories and a whole lot of self realization, but most importantly, it brought me home. I would have loved to stay there forever, roaming around seeing every town, every building, every whatever. I didn't though, because I had someone and something awesome waiting at home and the anticipation was killing me! I got home and from the moment I walked off the plane until now, has been life changing. The first weekend I was back I went down to LA and sparing the details, it was a success. So was the next 8 months. The more time I spent with him made me only want to be around him more. We played a crapload of airhockey, tons of pool, and ate A LOT of good food. If my stomach wasn't hurting from eating too much of the awesome food he cooked, I was sick from laughing too hard. I'm the happiest I've ever been and I feel better at everything I do. I finally stopped sucking at school and I'm on track to graduate in the spring so I can get out of that damn school and on to bigger things. I'm still thrashing the subtones in Abhorrance and also playing with a new band Take Warning which will pretty much blow you away. You wont be able to contain your excitement, believe me. On tuesday I move into the new apartment with Pat and Evan. Its an awesome place (right door to Chris and Mary!) and I will finally get Pat to make some pasta with tofu and terryaki for me cuz we'll have our own kitchen! My birthday is coming up then pretty much I'll just be relaxing in the new place with Pat until we have to start school. Oh, and we're going to Tahoe in 2 weeks which should rule. And I sense there is a lot of trivia in our future as well. Pretty much all I'm saying is that life is ruling and I couldn't be happier. All I need is a hut, some food, and you. Thank you for being a bigger dork than I am. <3

PS. This is it, I know this because we have compatible brontosaurus sounds.

Also, you're cute....aaaaand let's go camping.

SAY GOODBYE TO THE CORNER BAR... [Jul. 12th, 2006|10:55 pm]
[Current Location |at home]
[mood |trivia fix = satisfied]
[music |Watching A Life Less Ordinary]

So me, Lauren, and Pat went to Britannia Arms tonight to play trivia, aaaand I don't mean to brag, but we rule. Yeah we may not have gotten first, or second, or third for that matter, but we were clearly the best team. Between Lauren's good call on the patella, Pat's knowledge of underage hookers (Jodie Foster), and my good call on Bleeding Gums Murphy, we are the greatest trivia team of all time. We need a solid team name and maybe one more player (especially one that will help Lauren eat her potato skins cuz she got way sick eating them all herself). We rule.

I need some fucking epic LA-artichokes right now.

Also, there was way to many stupid baseball questions though. The quizmaster was some baseball buff and got all hurt cuz we guess Roger Clemens on some fucking bonus question. Get over it and put some fucking soccer questions on there, or hockey, or something other than strictly baseball (unless there's a question about Will Clark).

I got 2 A's and a C. I'm back at Ride Gear. I'm moving in a month next door to Chris and Mary (ruling!)I'm building quite a gnarly summer reading list starting with As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner. World Cup is ruling and I wish I could be at one of those games, so awesome. Switzerland is out though, bummed on that. Life is good. I mean really, isn't all we need just a hut, some food, and maybe one other important thing?

WHAT IS COMING OF THE WORLD? [May. 29th, 2006|11:04 am]
[mood |disappointment]
[music |silence.]

I saw Strung Out at slims on Friday night. Not only was it the worst Strung Out show I've been to, but it was the most unpleasant show in general that I have been to in a while. I do not understand why Strung Out must bring the SHITTIEST fucking bands on tour with them. Section 8, whom I've seen too many times with Strung Out, actually had a fucking bongo drum on stage. Then Strung Out plays and the fucking guitars are so quiet that I can't even tell what song they're playing. The bass was loud enough but the tone was so lame that you could barely make out the notes. Jordan's drums sounded ok except that one of his bass drums was louder than the other so when he used the double kick it sounded like the speaker was taking a shit. They were playing ok in the beginning but as it progressed it got sloppier and slower. They played a good choice of songs though including but not limited too: Never Speak Again, Radio Suicide, Lost Motel, Misanthropic, Alone, and so on. Now as far as the crowd goes, everyone knows that Strung Out shows are full of meatheads, but this was just ridiculous. There wasn't a whole lot of people there so there was a lot of space to move around. This means that if someone get pushed, they get thrown FAR. We got caught in the crossfire of too many almost-fights, there was a fucking caveman with a ponytail protecting his girlfriend in front of me and there was a dude wearing a tanktop that was closer to a wrestling singlet than a shirt.

The best part of the show was when some shithead was up on stage for the end of a song, the break and the beginning of the next when Jake went up and SHOVED him off. It was nice.

Better know your history... [May. 26th, 2006|03:29 pm]
[mood | full]
[music |Ignite- Our Darkest Days]

I've been listening to the new Ignite album on repeat and sing really loud when driving by myself.

I also saw the DaVinci Code. It was very true to the book but there's one thing that is really bothering me about the hype. IT IS A MOVIE. IT WAS BASED ON A WORK OF FICTION. If you've read the book, you will know that the "facts" Dan Brown writes are mostly tangents about art or other things that are NOT PART OF THE FICTICIOUS PLOT. If you've only seen the movie I suggest you read the book, it gives you more interesting explainations of everything in the movie. But as much as I really liked the story in itself, I do get a new level of entertainment from things that make Christians crap their pants in panic and frustration. But thinking about it, I rather have a bunch of idiots that believe everything they see or hear that claims the Church is lying and manipulative then having them believe anything they read on maniacalchristian.com.

SEE YA LATER. [May. 11th, 2006|08:46 pm]
[mood |ok now.]
[music |law and order.]

This has probably been the worst week ever. But somehow out of the pile of shit that was the events of the last few days, came a moment of clarity. I started to slip for awhile but I have everything under control. And the future is looking amazing.

I'll see you in another world.

NOT AT THIS TIME IN MY LIFE. [Apr. 25th, 2006|11:07 pm]
[mood |fuck off.]
[music |whatever.]

So I can't help but do this history thinger that Brandon and Nick did. So here's the striped down version of it because well, it's late.

My Musical History
by Marisa Kurk

1991: We'll start here, I was six years old. It was Christmas time and whilst shopping at the mall with my mum, I found the JCPenny catalogue. I sat down and searched through it when I came across the most awesome site my little eyes had ever seen. It was a pink and black sparkle drumset. I had to have it. From that moment, up until I was about 14 years old, every birthday and every christmas I asked for drums. (story concludes later on).

1992-3: Second and Third grade. Me and 2 friends of mine start a Tom Petty cover band in my garage. We only had a keyboard, none of us could sing, and well my paint bucket drums just weren't cuttin it. Also around this time me and one of the Tom Petty girls called KDON a whole lot requesting Green Day songs and finally realized that we needed to scrounge up the 8 bucks or 10 bucks and just go buy the fucking tape. So I did. Green Day- Dookie on a blue cassette. Still no drums.

1994: Listen to these things that I aquired from my parents, friends, and friends older siblings: Heart- Brigade, Tom Petty- all, Nirvana- Nevermind, Green Day- Dookie and Kerplunk, not sure what else.

1995: Still no drums, go to plan B: convince my parents to let me play Saxamaphone in the Rio Del Mar Elementary School band (this continues from 4th to 6th grade). Borrow NoFX- Punk in Drublic from my brother's friend, life changes forever. Jeff Wears Birkenstocks is my favorite song. Also this year, Smashing Pumpkins- Meloncholly and the Infinite Sadness comes out. Again, life changing. Oh, and I can't forget No Doubt- Tragic Kingdom, fucking DUUUUH.

1997: Jr. High, probably the most awkward era of my life. Quit saxamaphone. Went to my first concert- Third Eye Blind. yep, I sang my little 12 year old heart out to Semi-Charmed Life. Was listening to a lot of Offspring and No Doubt.

1998: Saw the Offspring with The Living End and Dance Hall Crashers. Started listening to A LOT of Living End. Still no drums but I convince my mom to let me take up guitar. I go to More Music downtown and get a black and white Washburn Maverick and a beat up Squier 15 amp. I learn songs out of the backs of guitar magazines.

1999: Hight School. By now I'm more into the punk thing but I still was listening to Smashing Pumpkins and randoms like Counting Crows. Go to some random shows. See No Doubt! Went in and out of my ska phase at the end of 99 into the beginning of 2000. Consisted of Less Than Jake, The Hippos, Save Ferris, and Reel Big Fish. The Hippos- Forget the World and Less Than Jake- Hello Rockview are the only ska albums I can really listen to nowaways.

2000: Get waaay into Saves the Day. Go to a bunch of shows. Start an all girl pop-punk band with Sarah, Katie, Lauren, and we didn't really have a drummer so by 2001 we recruited James Lucas.

2001: Two For Flinching plays it's one and only show consisting of 5 original songs and one Tsunami Bomb cover. Oh, by this time im taking guitar lessons and such. Ok, now heres the biggy, I BUY DRUMS! yep. got em. This is the cut down story though, there was much inbetween all this.

2002: All I do is go home from school, play guitar, play drums, play piano, and repeat rotation. Get into metal and metalcore, call it whathaveyou. See Strung Out for the first time, believe it or not, and nearly cry they are so amazing.

2003: Graduate high school finally. By this time I'm listeing to everything. Start playing in Frontier Zero. Strung Out obsession booms.

2004: Start Desert Eagle with Brandon, Johnny, and Nate. We sucked, and it ruled.

2005: Start playing in Abhorrance and Strike Out. Starting to really enjoy bass. Move around and drums have to go into storage.

2006: Drums come out of storage. Playing bass in Abhorrace.

SOOOO, WHAT? [Apr. 24th, 2006|08:47 pm]
[mood | sick]
[music |my brain hurting]

So I have the plague again. I am missing the Paint it Black, etc. show tonight. But have no fear I'm gonna catch it in frisco. School is starting to just get fucking annoying. Let's go on tour. Also, I'm going camping.

ps. I watched Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and was shocked cuz it was actually sorta rad. It had a rad story and even though all the sets were digital and junk it fit well. It was like Indiana Jones meets Tin Tin meets old 50s comic books meets Blade Runner.

Wilkommen funf-tag wochenende... [Apr. 5th, 2006|04:16 pm]
[mood |i hate school.]
[music |law and order]

your supposed to say interview me and i ask you five questions. if you want the long version of that, go read brandons journal.

This is what Brandon asked me-

1) If you were to ever declare a major, what do you think it would be?
well actually I did declare, I am an American Studies major. But I don't know what I'm doing.
2) Where were you born? Where did you grow up? When did you first come to SC? I've heard this before, but I can't remember.
I was born in Redwood City CA, I grew up in the Bay Area (Foster City, San Carlos, San Mateo) then moved to Woodland Hills (in the San Fernando Valley), then moved to Santa Cruz in 91, when I was 6 years old.
3) What would your ultimate art project entail?
It would be a house, completely designed, built, decorated, painted, etc, by me.
4) Is Pat as good in the sack as he brags?
Well I don't know what he says but I can pretty much guarantee that it's true.
5) What influenced you to be over the good ol' angry music you once liked, including bands you would try to turn me onto (that I no longer get to hear about)? I'm disillusioned, not over. BTBAM is one of the most amazing bands I've ever heard. I still listen to In Flames every day, but life changes and moods change and well I enjoy listening to the stuff that makes me feel good. Breakdowns don't really make me feel good. Don't worry I'm still angry at the world, but I connect more to "punk" then I do to "metal".

PLEASE SAY YOU CAUGHT IT. [Mar. 23rd, 2006|07:48 pm]
[mood |most delightful]
[music |igor stravinsky]

I am on spring break. I hope I got some Bs. I made a killing at Starving and thanks to Pat picked up a GK head for 125 bucks, and an ampeg 4x10 for 300 (which is Neurosis' cabinet cuz it says it everywhere). I am reading James Baldwin's Go Tell It On The Mountain. I am packing up my shit cuz I'm moving to Santa Cruz (with my parents though). I am working on my new skatedeck, its gonna be fucking awesome so be warned. When you see some girl lying face down on the pavement and you see the raddest deck ever, bottom-up with the wheels still spinning, well then tip your hat, and smile a little smile cuz its probably me.

I AM OWED (1) EPISODE LAW AND ORDER OR (1) FILM OF MY CHOOSING [Mar. 16th, 2006|04:33 pm]
[mood | relieved]
[music |doink doink.]

I have 1 paper due by Tuesday and one written/oral german exam on Tuesday from 4-7 and then I'm free. I started my own one-woman band. I really want my break to start so...(brace yourself for nerdiness)... can start reading Go Tell It On The Mountain and also work on my new skateboard. And by new, I mean I bought the deck in December and haven't had time to work on it. Abhorrance is going on some weekend tours which will RULE. I don't get to go anywhere for spring break. Way fucking bummer. Let's go to London. The end.

UCSC: "High"er Education. [Mar. 7th, 2006|09:48 pm]
[mood |boooooo]
[music |Dont Look Back- Strung Out]

I don't suppose anyone out there has read The Leopard or The Radetzky March? I must write a paper of 6-7 pages in length and its nothing short of a trainwreck so far.

I'm sooo close to the end of the quarter. 14-17 pages of total paper left to write, unknown hundreds of pages to read, 1 history exam, 1 german exam. Then I'm free and I can read Go Tell It On A Mountain which I already purchased, paint my new deck, and play instruments.

Ps. this isnt procrastination, this is just the byproduct of being too dumb to write a paper.
